The recent decision by the education ministry to do away with the Class 10 exams [Related article by Atul] to ‘reduce trauma’ amongst students is an interesting step in the currently fashionable trend of simplifying our education system. However, a piecemeal approach to this noble aim will achieve little, if any, positives, while at the same time, undermining the strength of an education system which has stood us in good stead over the last few decades – the academic rigour which sets Indians apart at the global level. continue

With the Left no longer a part of the Government, most of the pro-reform, free-market, let’s-free-up-the-economy junta is displaying their unabashed glee over the fact that the Reds will no longer be an ‘obstacle’ in India’s economic growth, and that now, finally, India Inc can grow at the pace it deserves to, without the fetters of a communist ideology holding it back. The UPA government will push for labour reforms, make FDI inflow easier, sell off some more PSUs (the oft-heard call that the Government has no business selling soap and similar stuff), and in general, have a free hand towards doing whatever they want. The upcoming budget is being awaited as something dramatically radical and far-sighted. continue
With the kind of cult following that Macs have amongst their users, one would believe that Apple’s market share in the PC + Notebook category would be steadily on its way up, since their resurgence as a formidable player in the computer market in the early 2000s. Almost anybody who has made the move to a Mac (yours truly included!) swears by the fragile beasts, and wonders why they didn’t move earlier. continue

Cafe Coffee Day brings to mind visions of plush coffee shops with steaming cups of awesome coffee, great ambience, and a staff which recognizes the fact that for most people, the real service is the experience and the ability to relax in a public place without being hassled and hustled along. The coffee is, of course, just incidental. continue

I am Harshad Karandikar, a passionate blogger, traveler, nature lover, a bit of a photographer and a half a dozen other things which I keep forgetting.
