Personally the UI of FB search is cluttered and I am no big fan. As far Social Search is concerned Socialmention.com and twitter search are extremely friendly and good. As far as profiling is concerned google has millions of profiles thus the biggest database of knowledge experts. The huge success of Vark.com and the feedback we have been receiving for Getafixx does indicate that responding to queries over gtalk/im is entertained by people. However in the long run certain incentives should be attached with the knowledge sharing process so as to keep the expert motivated.
Btw vark.com uses Twitter, Facebook, and IM

Interesting views Vivek. I read an article a few months back, FB is working on a social search engine which will tap the knowledge of friends to serve better search results. Considering the fact that people dont prefer being profiled, how far would one want to share that knowledge is what only time will tell.

Getafixx seems quite similar to vark.com only difference being vark uses twitter network.
