We need more and more of such initiatives resulting in self help groups. Self help is the best tool when the Govt. is passive. But it requires a lot more than just will to get the basic supplements required for such an exercise;in this case being cement etc., and primarily getting the benefactors to pool in their own resources.

An extension of this is microfinance which, follows a revenue based model but is slowly catching up in villages in AP, TN, Orissa, WB, Rajathan and parts of MP and UP.

Kudos! to Joe and his team. It is a herculean task getting such tasks accomplished.

Thanks a lot Abhiram, Kaushik, Jaikit and Rashmi.
I really do agree with Abhiram that there are these desrving people whom not many know in India, but people around the world applaud for. In fact Joe is in Sweden as I post this.
Hope we can keep this going and bring to light initiatives by people like Mr. Madiath too.
