Some search engines offer excellent benefits to the iphone users; like AAfter Search. It allows getting any area-specific local information by just inputting the city and state. However, this is applicable for the American states only. Being an iphone user, you can try it.

You are correct about fast expansion of India's mobile market, but that is not case with internet users on cellphones.
There is difference between 'creating a market' and 'capturing the market'. No doubt, FB lite has potential to capture a big part of the market mentioned. But I believe first, internet companies will have to create the market of internet usage on cellphones in emerging economies.

exciting post indeed! yeah it truly is getting hotter.....Facebook Lite seems a good marketing move as well. Actually Google, Gmail in particular has also recently gone down this road.
Few months back they came up with a feature in Gmail Labs where, users can see a preview of their latest email before Gmail loads fully. This is meant to be very useful in countries where broadband connectivity is less and people have to rely on slow internet connections. So people neednt waste time for the entire thing to load. Small and incremental, but very useful innovation.

Recently in the Gmail blog, there was another update. People using netbooks(in developing countries) to access gmail find it inconvenient to read their email subjects in the inbox because of the use of Labels in Gmail. This new option allows users to switch off the display of labels when they want to check new mail, as this allows good screen optimization.

Facebook Lite is another step towards tapping the less developed internet markets.

Good read!

Interesting article, esp the part about Twitter. Just wondering about the future of FB apps in such an environment, esp popular games like Mafia wars.
