Saurav, that is really good article, enjoyed reading it. Though, would not agree to what you said about Mr. Ambani being opportunist and taking advantage of loopholes. It is easy for you to say, because you have not suffered because of his style, but I known people who were forced to shut-down their business because Reliance used their favorite trick of huge discount to clear the clout.

I do agree successful people would have more foe then friends. Anyways, keep writing.

I really liked the personality you picked up for the Incredible Indians category. His life has been filled with controversies but despite he has came out as a person with extraordinary business acumen. The only sad part is if his sons could carry forward the kind of vision Shri Dhirubhai Ambani had, rather than entering in personal feuds.

Thanks for ur comments. I totally agree with u on the backward integration strategy of Reliance and I should have mentioned it. I wasn’t aware of the above mentioned happening in KG D-6. Thanks once again for making me aware about it. I will try to go into the details and learn more about it. Organizing shareholder’s meetings in large halls and stadium was definitely a concept which was popularized by Dhirubhai.

Saurav, the above post is pretty good – great job. Specially loved the line – “Success in life is not related to formal education and fat degrees alone”

Perhaps you could have spoken a bit of backward integration (sarees to polyester to plastic to Oil refinery to Exploration.). Also the fact that he started the concept of inviting almost all the shareholders to a large assembly hall.

But you have sidestepped that he was unethical. Well, KG-D-6 is a glowering example of this. ONGC explored the area around Rajahmundry for nearly 12 years, and then, all of a sudden left the area. RIL walks in, and gets gas in 6 months – isn’t that a bit fishy?

Anyway, keeping the broader view in mind – perhaps this can be excused, for the reasons you have described.
